1820
Marines participate in the capture of seven slave schooners off the African coast.

1821
Archibald Henderson assumes commandancy of the U.S. Marine Corps
Marines participate in the capture of six pirate vessels at Cape Antonio, Cuba.

1822
In Cuban waters, Marines participate in the capture of three pirate vessels, the recapture of a pirate prize vessel (a Dutch sloop), engage a number of pirate vessels in exchanges of fire, and land in pursuit of pirates at Cape Antonio, Cuba.

1823
Operating from a new base on Key West, Marines continue to engage pirate vessels in exchanges of fire, capturing one pirate vessel, and to land in pursuit of pirates on Cuban shores.

1824
Marines from the Boston Navy Yard subdue a riot at the Massachussetts State Prison in Boston.
Commodore Porter lands with Marines at Fajardo, Puerto Rico, to avenge an insult to the American flag.

1825
Marines fight a fire on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and exchange fire with a pirate vessel off the coast of Puerto Rico.

1826
The Mameluke hilt is prescribed for Marine officers' swords.

1827
Marines participate in the capture of four pirate vessels & engage pirate vessels in exchanges of fire off the coast of Greece, land & burn the pirate town of Miconi in the Cyclades Islands, and capture moored pirate vessels on Andros, Greece, in the Aegean.

1828
Marines participate in the capture of an Argentenian privateer at St. Bartholomew Island, West Indies.

1829
Marine Corps Headquarters at the Center House, Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., catches fire, destroying numerous irreplaceable records of Marine Corps actions up to that time.

1830
Marines participate in the capture of a slave brig off Cape Haitien, Haiti.
