A comprehensive search of extant military records for any American veteran, Revolutionary War through Korean Conflict.
Cost for initial search $10, non-refundable, per individual veteran. What this will get you is a list (sent by me via email) of existing individual records: what type
(draft card, roster, discharge papers, etc) and the year each record was issued. Usually there are just a few records per veteran, but sometimes they can number a hundred or more.
Once you receive my list, it is up to you to decide if there are any records of which
you would like paper copies. Cost is $3 per individual record, non-refundable, beginning with the third record. The first two records are included in the initial $10 charge. I will put them in a manilla envelope and mail them to you.
No extra postage charge to you.
It is rare that any of these records contain much information. Often they only have the individual's name (among many others in the same unit)
on a roster. The rosters can be useful if you are trying to pinpoint a veteran's location on a particular date. They are also useful for indicating when
a particular veteran was absent from his company due to sickness.
If there are quite a number of records and you only wish to order a few, that is fine. If you wish to order additional records from your list at a later date, you can do so
without paying for another search. The cost to you will always be $3 per record. Just email your list back to me each time, indicating which records you want.
The records themselves can be Selective Service registration, draft card, enlistment papers, unit rosters, discharge papers. So far on my searches I have not come across records pertaining to
military awards, even in instances where I know the veteran won citations. Often on discharge papers the citations won by the individual will be listed, indicating
when the citation was awarded and (sometimes) for what engagement. But not why they were awarded.
When I do a search on your veteran, I will not have time to pull up each individual record to see what is on it, especially if your veteran has many records.
All I can do is identify what type of record it is, and the year. If your veteran has 50 or 100 records, I won't list them individually. I will identify the types of
records he has, how many for each type, and the year, or range of years, that they occur in. If you are serious about buying many of them, I will work with you
from there, and you can start buying them according to type, or chronologically, or by any other arrangement you wish.
I am not offering to do detailed research on your veteran. I don't read the records and tell you what they contain. The only service I am offering is to locate
records and send copies.
The records I have access to are microfilms of the original records, in electronic form. Unfortunately I am not permitted to save them as pdf or image files, so I
cannot send them to you electronically. All I can do is call up each individual record and print it out. I have a high-resolution laser printer. The printed record I
send you will be same quality as the microfilm, which is often somewhat poor, though legible. What I send you will be the same quality as if you went to the Library of
Congress or National Archives yourself, located the records and printed them out yourself.
One thing you should understand is that even if your veteran served in the American military, there may not be a full set of records for him or her. Many records
have been accidentally destroyed through the years. Many of the records for WWI veterans were lost in a fire in St Louis, where many of the AEF records were stored.
Military records are housed in many different places in this country, and not all of them have survived.
If you pay $10 for a search, and I can find nothing at all on your veteran, I will refund your money. If I only turn up one or two records, these will be mailed to you at no extra charge. In summary,
the costs are as follows:
Search plus no records = $0.
Search plus one record = $10.
Search plus two records = $10.
Search plus three records = $13.
Search plus four records = $16,
and so on.
Remember, you control the costs. Regardless of how many records I find for your veteran, you only pay for the initial search and for
however many printed records you specifically request. The first two records are printed and sent to you as part of the $10 cost.
Charges above $10 only begin with your third requested record.
If you have any questions, email me, BJ Omanson, at skipper@labyrinth.net.
If you want searches done for two or more veterans, the cost for the initial search is $10 per veteran.
HOW TO ORDER:
Click on the "Order" button below. On the first page, leave the shipping charge blank. In the final field on the page, "Additional information",
type in all the basic information you have about your veteran.
At the very least I need a full name, branch of service, and the dates of his or her service, even if only approximately.
If you know rank, unit, or where they served, that would also be useful, but not necessary.
Once you have filled in that information, click on "Go To Payments" to complete your order. You should hear from me within 24 hours.
