The History of the Sixth Machine Gun Battalion lists Private Henry Autler,
in the 77 Company roster dated 15 Mar 1918. He does not appear on 77 Co's Armistice
roster. The History indicates that he was wounded at Chateau-Thierry (Belleau Wood) on 15 June 1918.
The single dogtag shown above was recently sold in open auction, with no provenance
provided. Tag may or may not be authentic. Compare with
tag of Sgt Otto Pedt, also recently sold at auction without supporting documentation.
To the best of our knowledge, AEF tags displayed neither rank nor unit, and this tag displays both.
