Sgt WILLIAM H. FURY, USMC
William Fury, of Winthrop, Maryland, served first as a corporal with
Headquarters Detachment, with which unit he received the Distinguished
Service Cross at Belleau Wood. He later served as a sergeant with
81st Company.
His citation at Belleau Wood reads: "Corporal
William H. Fury, 107955, Headquarters Detachment, 6th Machine Gun
Battalion: During heavy shelling with high explosive and shrapnel
he remained at his post almost continuously night and day for several
days alone, making coffee for the wounded being evacuated to the rear."
Sgt Fury was also a recipient of the Navy Cross.
