HOMECOMING:
When the Soldiers Returned from Vietnam

Bob Greene

Presidio, 1988. Putnams, 1989. VG/VG. 1st edition. Some very light smudging to dust jacket, and a 1" closed tear to rear panel of dust jacket. Remainder mark on bottom of book. Spine & front panel of dust jacket are clean & undamaged. Interviews with Vietnam veterans, including a number of Marines, about their experiences on first landing on U.S. soil from Vietnam. "Walking through O'Hare Airport made me more uncomfortable than walking through the paddies & jungles." "A man gave me his airline ticket so I could get home for Christmas when all the flights were full..." "On returning from Vietnam minus my right arm, I was accosted twice by individuals who inquired, 'Where did you lose your arm? Vietnam?' I replied 'Yes.' The response was 'Good. Serves you right.'" "I marched in the big veterans' parade in Chicago... I felt so good to be marching with thousands of Marines who were bursting with pride singing the Marine Corps Hymn. To see people step forward with a picture of their dead son or brother... to see disabled veterans step out to shake hands... for all of us to wipe a little spit off our hearts."
