Harbor d was Pershing's Chief of Staff, then commanded the 4th Brigade of Marines, 2nd Division, at Belleau Wood & Soissons and, finally, commanded the Service of Supply. His is one of the major American accounts of the war, one of the basic sources of the history of the Marine Brigade, and one of the most articulate of all the narratives to emerge from the war.
