Volume 1, Number 13, Published Weekly. July 8, 1919, Nieuwied-on-the-Rhine, Germany. VG. Wraps. 8.75x11. Staple bound. Several light greasespots on cover: the largest one, and the worst (see photo, left of nurse's head), penetrates through page 3, though does not affect readability. Entire issue a very light uniform browning, but pages are not brittle. No other obvious flaws. Still in decent condition overall. There were 14 INDIANS published all told; thirteen in Germany & one aboard ship on the way home. All were published in 1919. Each cover was unique: an original work of art by a member of the division. The cover for this issue shows the head of Red Cross nurse against a Red Cross flag. Inside the issue, the lead-off story is "At a French Theatre", a humorous account by a sergeant from one of the supply trains about his misadventure with French culture & the French language. Elsewhere in the issue are stories about an impromptu wild west show in Dierdorf, hosted by the "Y", a congratulatory letter to the men of the Second Division from the Chief of Staff of the Third Army, a story about the first Second Division Association Day, an aerial photograph of the 17th FA Headquarters at Ehrenbreitstein, a story about the torpedoing of the British troop ship Tuscania in the North Channel, a photo and story about a goat at Chateau Thierry who furnished the men with milk , news from Headquarters Sixth Marines, a story about Marines at Lucy-le-Bocage on July 4th, various cartoons, an editorial about the "Soul of the German Nation", a number of divisional sports stories, a long story by a private of the 5th Marines about an historic German estate in the vicinity, a regular column by "York Spur", gossip from Battery B, 17th FA, and a nice action drawing, "Shooting Up the Second Ammunition Train." A story from the 2nd Engineers, "Fire Water", about a full-blood Indian in their ranks who disappeared during an artillery bombardment near Thiaucourt and reappeared some time later carrying seven bottles of fine rum. A poem from the Second Supply Train entitled "Our Flivver. 16 double-column pages.
