Volume 1, Number 9, Published Weekly. June 10, 1919, Nieuwied-on-the-Rhine,
Germany. Good. Wraps. 8.75x11. Staple bound. A nice, clean copy,
no chips or tears. Some minor smudging on back cover. There were 14 INDIANS
published all told; thirteen in Germany & one aboard ship on the way
home. All were published in 1919. Each cover was unique: an original
work of art by a member of the division. The cover for this issue,
all in blue, shows a team of horses hauling a caisson & artillery piece
through a bombed-out village. Cover drawn by W.B. Calkins USMC, of the
5th Regiment Band. Inside, the lead-off story is "Celebrate first
Battle" about the first anniversary of the battle of Chateau Thierry. Article
contains an address by MajGen John A. Lejeune, USMC, Commanding the 2nd
Division A.E.F. News articles about the following units of the division:
4th Machine Gun Battalion; 18th Company, 5th Marines; 6th Machine Gun Battalion;
Field Hospital 15; Battery E, 12th Field Artillery; 6th Marines; Company
B, 5th Machine Gun Battalion; 1st Field Signal Battalion; 15th Field Artillery.
Nice drawing of a field artillery crew in action by Frank Druen of Company
F, 15th Field Artilllery. Other illustrations include a full page drawing
of Rudelsburg Castle by Joseph Lange of Company E, 2nd Engineers, an a
drawing of an armed frigate in full sail with the caption: "When My Ship
Comes Home." Also included are the regular column, "York Spur's
Dope", brief stories, notices, original art, cartoons, editorials, gossip,
poetry, sports, and news of individual soldiers & Marines, as well
as of different companies & battalions. 16 double-column pages.
