Volume 1, Number 4, Published Weekly, May 6, 1919, Nieuwied-on-the-Rhine, Germany. VG. Wraps. 8.75x11. Staple bound. Some light wrinkling & creasing to all pages in upper right corner, otherwise this copy in nice, very clean condition. There were 14 INDIANS published all told; thirteen in Germany & one aboard ship on the way home. All were published in 1919. Each cover was unique: an original work of art by a member of the division. The cover for this issue shows an Indian brave in a canoe, raising his hand to the setting sun in salute. Drawing is in black and orange. Inside the issue, the lead-off story is "Siegfried at Drachenfels", a tall tale by a member of the First Field Signal Battalion about how the Germans obtained "poison gas, flame-throwers, double-crossin', an a lot of things too numerous to mention." Also included are gossip from Company H, 23rd Infantry, stories from 49th Company, 5th Marines, Ammunition Train, 5th Machine Gun Battalion, Battery F, 12th FA, Second Supply Train, Motor Transport Corps, First Field Signal Battalion and the Second Engineers. There is a short story about "Going Home" by "A Marine", a reminiscence about St Mihiel by Col Drury's chauffeur, a drawing of 12th FA billets on the Meuse, a number of cartoons depicting German civilians, an editorial about "Bolshevism", a page of cartoons, "Who Won the War, sports news, a photograph of the 17th FA getting into position on the Meuse-Argonne drive near Fosse, a column of recent honors won by the 2nd Division.
