The Department of Defense announced on May 11 the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Stephen P. Baldwyn, 19, of Saltillo, Miss., died May 9 as a result of wounds received from an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Nasser Wa Salaam, Iraq. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.


Lance Cpl. Taylor B. Prazynski, USMC

The Department of Defense announced on May 9 the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Taylor B. Prazynski, 20, of Fairfield, Ohio, died May 9 from an explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Karmah, Iraq.   He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Plain Dealer -- CLEVELAND -- May 12, 2005 -- David Prazynksi fondly remembered his nephew Wednesday as an active young man who was recognized for the work he did with physically disabled students. U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Taylor B. Prazynksi, 20, of Fairfield, Ohio, was killed Monday by an explosion in Al Karmah in Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. David Prazynski, also of Fairfield, a northern suburb of Cincinnati, told The Plain Dealer his nephew joined the Marines after graduating from Fairfield High School in 2003. He went into the Marines in November of that year. He said his nephew joined the Marines to gain some maturity and earn money so he could go to college. "He wanted to see if he had the stuff to be a Marine and obviously he did," he said. Prazynski was the son of John Prazynski of Liberty Township and Claudia Focke of Fairfield.

       Lance Cpl. Marcus Mahdee, 20, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died May 9 as a result of wounds received from an enemy explosion while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Al Karmah, Iraq.  He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Staff Sgt. Anthony L. Goodwin, USMC

The Department of Defense announced on May 11 the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

         Staff Sgt. Anthony L. Goodwin, 33, of Mount Holly, N.J., died May 9 from enemy small-arms fire while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Al Qaim, Iraq.  He was assigned to 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Associated Press -- CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- The Pentagon says a Camp Lejeune-based Marine from New Jersey was killed yesterday in western Iraq. Staff Sergeant Anthony L. Goodwin was the leader of the 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division infantry unit assigned to disrupt insurgents. The Pentagon says Goodwin, formerly of Mount Holly, New Jersey was killed by small arms fire while on a mission to disrupt insurgent activities near the Syrian border. Goodwin, a veteran of the first Gulf War, joined the Marine Corps in September 1989 and had received more than two dozen medals and commendations.
