Lance Cpl. Kenneth J. Butler, USMC

Lance Cpl. Kenneth J. Butler, 19, of Rowan, N.C., died Oct. 21 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Al Amariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Cpl. Seamus M. Davey, USMC

Cpl. Seamus M. Davey, 25, of Lewis, N.Y., died Oct. 21 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the vicinity of Haqlaniyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve’s 4th Force Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Reno, Nev. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).

Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher W. Thompson, USN

Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher W. Thompson, 25, of N. Wilkesboro, N.C., was killed in action on Oct. 21, from an IED explosion while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. Thompson was assigned to Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 8th Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Cpl. Benny G. Cockerham, III, USMC

Cpl. Benny G. Cockerham III, 21, of Conover, N.C., died when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Al Amariyah, Iraq on Oct. 21. His vehicle was traveling beside a canal when the attack occurred and he was thrown from the vehicle into the water. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Capt. Tyler B. Swisher, USMC

Capt. Tyler B. Swisher, 35, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces near Al Amariyah, Iraq on Oct. 21. His vehicle was traveling beside a canal when the attack occurred and he was thrown from the vehicle into the water. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
