Associated Press -- ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- Governor Richardson has ordered flags across the state to fly at half-staff Thursday and Friday in honor of a 21-year-old Lovington Marine who was killed in Iraq. Lance Corporal Aaron Austin was killed in action in Fallujah, making him the third New Mexican soldier to be killed during the war in Iraq. Richardson says Austin should be honored for his service and bravery and for the sacrifice he made to protect our freedom. Austin’s mother—De’on Miller—says she remembers her son’s rambunctious yet endearing personality. She says he could light up a room with his smile. Austin was a member of the Second Battalion, First Marine Regiment, E Company weapons platoon. He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. Austin was a graduate of Lovington High School. He had plans to be married in December.
