North County Times -- CAMP PENDLETON -- A Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base was killed Monday in fighting in Iraq, base officials said Wednesday. Lance Cpl. Jeremy Bohlman, 21, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died during hostile action in the Al Anbar Province, according to the base. Bohlman was a light vehicle crewman assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, according to a Camp Pendleton press release. Marines have been involved in heavy fighting in the region since taking control of the area in March from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. On Wednesday, Bohlman's former high school principal, Bill Hoff, recalled Bohlman as "a good kid" who was easygoing and polite, but struggled in school. Bohlman attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls from 1996 to 2000, Hoff said. Bohlman joined the Marines in 2001 and was serving his second deployment in Iraq. His awards included the Combat Action Ribbon, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the release stated.
