John W. THOMASON. Born in Texas; short story writer, biographer,
artist. Served in Co. B, 5th Marines, 4th Brigade of Marines, 2nd Division, American Expeditionary Force, at Belleau
Wood, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Blanc Mont, Argonne. Awarded Navy Cross for assaulting
machine gun nest at Soissons. Later served in Nicaragua, China, and Fleet Marine Force.
Attained rank of colonel
before his death in 1944.
