ONE MAN'S WAR
The Diary of a Leatherneck
Cpl J.E. Rendinell, with George Pattullo
VG/VG. Hardcover with dust jacket. Jacket has small strip missing from top of spine, and corner missing from rear panel. Very minor chipping along extremities.
Book has corner wear to top of spine, and top of spine is present but discolored. Some edgewear to book generally. Two tiny holes in fabric to top edge.
Book otherwise clean, intact and tight. Quite a nice copy overall.
(NY: Sears & Company, 1928). Book originally published in 1927 by Curtis Publishing Company. The Curtis edition
(very possibly a privately-commissioned printing) was probably quite small, as I have never seen a copy or seen it listed in
any dealer's catalogue. 177 pages.
Cpl Rendinell served with 97th Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 4th Brigade of Marines, 2nd Division,
AEF, at Verdun (quiet sector), Belleau Wood, & Soissons, all during 1918. He was wounded by shrapnel and twice
gassed. Diary also covers training at Paris Island, Quantico and the Bourmont Sector.
Among the best enlisted Marine diaries to come out of WWI. Funny, unvarnished, direct.
OUT OF PRINT, SCARCE. After the Sears edition, never reprinted; this difficult to find.
VERY SCARCE IN DUST JACKET.
