Joseph Phillips




Joseph Phillips (later Miruki), of Chicago, served in the U.S. Army during the Philippine Insurrection and had the special distinction of being a five-year veteran of the Legion before the advent of World War I. He was killed in action on April 18, 1917, while leading his squad against a German machine-gun position during the Champagne-Aisne offensive.
