Five WWI USMC documents belonging to 4th Brigade veteran John A. Rose,
who trained at Quantico and served on the USS San Diego, USS Denver,
and with 4th Brigade, 2nd Division AEF in France. Documents as
follows: Unit Croix de Guerre Citation awarded to the 5th Marines
for actions at Blanc Mont ~~ English translation of CdeG Citation ~~
letter of transmittal of certificates from Headquarters
U.S. Marine Corps ~~ Wound Certificate ~~ War Service Certificate.

The Croix de Guerre Certificate has been fairly badly crumpled
and has a 1/2-inch tear in bottom left corner, two jagged 1/2-inch
tears along bottom, and a one-inch tear along left margin. It is
still frameable, as picture will show, and a professional restorer
could make it about like new, as no pieces are missing. Color is
still bright, unlike many such certificates which have faded over
time. Should be framed behind ultra-violet ray-blocking glass.

The Wound Certificate has also been crumpled, but only
along the left margin. There is also a little foxing on margin.
No tears, and picture is not faded at all.

The letter of transmittal is chipped and torn in places,
as shown in photo. Print is unfaded.

The English translation of the Croix de Guerre Certificate
has been badly crumpled and has some chipping along edges, but is
untorn, and print is still bright.

None of the documents are yellowed at all. Any yellowing
in picture is due to scanning. All documents are off-white on
heavy card, except the two smaller documents which are paper. All
documents are shown full-size, but as they were too large to
fit on scanner, they are shown in portions only.
