Cpl Robert Dean Swango, USMC
Robert D. Swango, born 4 April 1924 at Toulon, Illinois. Younger brother of Capt Gordon Swango, USMC.
~~ Enlisted Chicago 26 March 1942 for 4 years. Served in the Pacific from 24 January 1943 to 31 December 1944.
~~ Field telephoneman with 3rd Division.
~~ Participated in action against the enemy at Bougainville, BSI, from 2 November 1943 to 15 December 1943;
~~ Participated in the consolidation of Northern Solomons from 16 to 28
December 1943;
~~ Served on Guam, Mariana Islands, 21 July to 10 August 1944.
~~ Contracted severe case of malaria.
