Selected by Karl Schuon, Editor, Leatherneck
VG--/VG--. Small tears and edgewear to jacket (in mylar). Book is clean and tight, but bottom edge of rear cover is frayed.
(NY: Franklin Watts, Inc., 1963). First Edition. Index, 277 pages.
Just eight months after World War I broke out, Leatherneck, the Marines' magazine, published its first issue. It has been chronicling the U.S. Marine Corps ever since.
The true accounts in this book -- all from Leatherneck -- span nearly two centuries of the Corps' illustrious history. They reflect the pride, tradition, humor, and sentiment which have been a part of this elite fighting force through the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Indian Wars, the Civil War (in which Union Marine fought against Confederate Marine), the "Banana Wars," both World Wars, Korea and Lebanon.
Here, too, are the fascinating and heroic characters who helped mold Marine History since its infant beginnings in 1775 -- Sam Nicholas, Presley O'Bannon, "Archie" Henderson, Smedley Butler, "Chesty" Puller, and many, many more.
All but a few of these accounts written by Marines who lived and fought with the men whose valor and courage have forged U.S. Marine Corps history.
