Otto H. Kahn

VG--. Paper covers, stapled. Rear cover chipped along edges. Both covers suffer from what appears to be light insect damage: superficial scraping over much of the surface area of both covers. (See picture of front cover). Nowhere on the front cover does this scraping penetrate through, but on the rear covers it has resulted in several tiny holes, and some small chips along the top edge. Interior of pamphlet is clean, and binding tight. Cover hinge is intact and not split.

"An Address at the United War Work Campaign Meeting of the Boston Athletic Association, November 12, 1918. 18 pages.

Apart from news stories printed at the time of the battle, this is one of the earliest assessments of the importance of Belleau Wood, a speech given the day after the Armistice, just six months after the battle's occurance. Primarily an inspirational piece, it discusses the battle in general terms only, concentrating on the pivotal significance of the battle in stopping the German drive at its closest approach to Paris, and its galvanizing effect on the moral of the Allied Armies and French civilians. Kahn was present in France at the time, and many of his descriptions are based on his own observations.

Fairly scarce & difficult to find. Never reprinted.
